Wildlife at Gilbury

As a family we are passionate wildlife enthusiasts and are delighted with the diverse wildlife in and around Gilbury Farm. We have lots of bats in the roof and out buildings, owls and buzzards nesting in Gilbury Field, slow worms near the compost, some native wild daffodils and a host of other wildlife. We have created various habitats around the house, gardens and fields, such as bat and bird boxes, owl boxes, log piles and so on to encourage diversity. We have swallows that nest here every year in an outhouse and last year they successfully reared 3 clutches of chicks, which all fledged. We have rigged up a wildlife camera and hope to put footage of the swallows for you all to enjoy this year. In the future we hope to be able to provide live footage through the website.
In partnership with nature
Rob's degree in Conservation and Countryside management has given us a good grounding in wildlife conservation and we believe strongly that modern farming should embrace working with wildlife rather then struggle against it. Our farming philosophy is to work in partnership with nature.
Wild food
We are really into wild food foraging and cooking and hope in the future to provide short courses for people interested in bushcraft skills such as wild cooking. Please see our wild food recipe page for inspiration for wild food available now.
