WWOOFing at Gilbury Farm

We are registered as WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) hosts here at Gilbury Farm; we are not in fact organic but we do strive to farm with organic principles and pride ourselves on farming as ethically as possible.

Our WWOOFing volunteers stay in a large static caravan outside the main house, it is clean, warm and comfortable and volunteers have their own shower and toilet. Until recently our wwoof volunteers would eat with us at family meal times but because Caitlin is now heavily pregnant and soon we will have another tiny baby to care for we have arrange the accomodation so that wwoofers can cater for themselves in the caravan. We request a shopping list at the start of each week so that we can get in any supplies you need to cook your own meals. That said, we will often invite our volunteers to come and eat with us, particularly at weekends for sunday meals.

The work on the farm for volunteers includes feeding the animals, cleaning their houses and checking their health every day, maintaining fences and equipment and general farm activity. Also we have ongoing projects such as stock fencing and altering/building barns. Creating a vegetable patch and an orchard and hedging around the boundaries. We also have regular events such as pigs farrowing (giving birth), cows calving, chicks hatching and sheep lambing (in the spring), taking animals to slaughter, and vet visits.

We are in a great location in Cornwall, walkable from Lostwithiel town centre where there are shops and pubs and a train station, which has regular services to London and down west to Penzance. We are a short drive from the sea and we have a tidal river through the town which is great for swimming and canoeing. There are beautiful walks all around the area and lots of history and culture to experience.
